ACCESSIBILITY

Accessibility on the web enables access to information and different types of content because it significantly reduces physical or technical barriers.

For more than a decade, we have been working on different initiatives that have been taking place to coordinate the guidelines whose purpose is to improve accessibility on the web. Among them is the Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI), which is part of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). This organization has developed the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 1.0 that aims to make content on the network accessible to people with disabilities.

Therefore, one of the main objectives of the website www.albatian.com is that all users can browse the contents of this portal without access difficulties, regardless of any disability.

We have studied various functionalities of this portal to guarantee the user access to all its contents. Among the main ones are:

  • The HTML and CSS code used conforms to the formal grammars to guarantee the correct visualization of the contents in different browsers.
  • The visual characteristics of the portal (font, size, font color and background) are defined by the style sheet so that the user can adjust the text to their preferences.
  • It has taken into account the structure and semantic composition of the site. For them, the content of the different templates has been organized taking into account section headings, lists and all elements that help the general understanding of the site.
  • Alternatives have been facilitated for the multimedia contents used in the site (video, flash, audio)

All pages of the www.albatian.com site meet all Priority 2 (AA Level Adequacy) checkpoints defined in the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) specification by the Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) Of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) except for:

  • PDFs documents
  • And for some of the videos and images

Being aware that the mere satisfaction of these criteria does not guarantee by itself an easy access to all our contents. Therefore, we invite you to send us your comments and suggestions through our email box.
